Nourish currently works with Blue Cross Blue Shield (including all state plans and associated plans such as Anthem, Highmark, Independence, etc.), United Healthcare (including UMR, Oxford, and Student Resources), Aetna (including Meritain), Cigna, Devoted Health, and Medicare (medicare requires a qualifying diagnosis for coverage). Medicaid is not accepted at this time.
At this time, Nourish does not accept any Medicaid plans.
We’re eager to support this population in the future and are actively working to become credentialed with these plans, but it’s an extensive process.
The number of covered appointments depends on your specific plan. Most patients have no visit limits and can do as many sessions per year as they want. However, some plans have strict visit limits — use the coverage calculator at nourish.com/does-my-insurance-cover-nutrition or call the member services number on the back of your card to ask about Medical Nutrition Therapy benefits. If calling, please provide the representative with CPT codes 97802 and 97803 for Medical Nutritional Therapy. If insurance denies claims because you hit your visit limit, Nourish will not charge you for sessions that have already occurred.
Enter your insurance information during the sign-up flow and Nourish will filter the dietitian directory to show only dietitians in-network with your plan!
A copay is a fixed fee (determined by your insurance) that you pay for each session.
A coinsurance is similar - it is a fee that you must pay for each session after you meet your deductible. The amount is determined by insurance, and it is typically a percentage of the total appointment cost.
Use our insurance coverage calculator to verify your coverage and get an estimate for your copay or coinsurance to see a Nourish dietitian.
Please note that the calculator provides an estimate for your copay/coinsurance, and while we do our best to give you the most accurate estimate possible, sometimes the actual cost you get back from insurance may vary. In that case, you will be responsible for payment for the copay/coinsurance cost determined by your insurance.
A deductible is an agreed-upon amount you must pay for covered healthcare services before your insurance plan starts to pay. You can find out your deductible amount (and how much you’ve already met) by calling your insurance or logging into your insurance portal.
If your claim goes to a deductible you don’t wish to contribute to, we will not charge you for any sessions that have already occurred. We will reach out to you personally to determine payment options for future sessions if you wish to continue working with your dietitian.
Nourish does not handle any billing for out-of-network plans. We can offer you a superbill that you can submit to your insurance in hopes of getting reimbursed. It is your responsibility to inquire with your insurance company regarding these benefits and submit superbills (we can provide you with the superbill). The session fee must be paid at the time of service.
If Nourish doesn't accept your insurance, you can still see a dietitian at a self-pay rate of $145 per session. Nourish can also provide a superbill you may submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement.
You can also use your FSA/HSA card to pay for sessions with a dietitian!
Please reach out to your medical provider and ask for a referral to see a registered dietitian covered under Medicare. The referral must include one of the following qualifying diagnoses: diabetes (Type 1 or Type 2) or chronic kidney disease stage 3 or higher. The referral must be completed by an MD or DO and may be faxed to Nourish at 512-399-9039. For additional questions, please email us at support@nourish.com.
The Nourish Guarantee is our commitment to providing a no-surprise billing experience for you! Our guarantee is:
94% of in-network patients pay $0 out-of-pocket. Use the coverage calculator to verify. All appointments are backed by the Nourish Guarantee. Nourish verifies your insurance coverage before your appointment and handles all claim submissions!
Yes, Nourish accepts Medicare. Medicare covers Medical Nutritional Therapy for the following medical conditions:
No other diagnoses, including pre-diabetes will be covered.
If you don’t have a qualifying diagnosis for one of the covered conditions, your supplemental insurnace will not cover the appointment costs.
A referral from your medical provider is required. We require referrals to be completed by an MD or DO, listing the qualifying diagnosis on the referral. The referral can be faxed to: 512-399-9039.
No! 94% of our patients have sessions fully covered by insurance, at $0 out of pocket cost to them. There are no other hidden or surprise fees with Nourish. That said, you will be responsible for any copay or co-insurance payments determined by your insurance policy agreement.
Yes! You are welcome to pay using HSA or FSA funds.
If your insurance changes, you can update it at any time through the Billing & Insurance tab in the Nourish App. You will need to add photos of the front & back of your insurnace card, so ensure you have your card handy!
If you want to learn more about your new plans coverage, you can plug your new plan’s information into our coverage calculator or contact your new carrier to ask about your plans coverage for Medical Nutritional Therapy. For new coverage, we typically recommend contacting your insurance to ask, so you have all the figures for your new coverage!
A credit card on file is required to cover any potential patient responsibility amounts (copays, coinsurance, deductible amounts, or no-show fees) after insurance processes claims. You will always be notified before any charge is applied.
Yes, Nourish is actively expanding its insurance network. You can reach out to request that your plan be added, but due to limitations with some Insurance Carriers, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to become in-network with them.
Under the Nourish Guarantee, if a claim is denied, you won't be charged for any sessions that already took place. Nourish will work with you to address the denial.
For any claim denials, our team will investigate the denial and if applicable, reach out to your insurance provider for additional details regarding your denial. If possible, we will have the claim sent back for review and reprocessing. If your plan will not cover our services, you will receive an email stating that your claim was denied by your insurance provider, you will not be responsible for the appointments you have had, but going forward for any appointments, you will need to be self-pay.
The vast majority of our patients don’t pay anything for Nourish’s services!
The Nourish Guarantee is our commitment to providing a no-surprise billing experience for you. Specifically, if your appointment does have a copay or coinsurance, you will not be charged more than your estimate (calculated here) for any appointments you have until we learn your real cost.
Once we learn your confirmed copay or coinsurance from your insurance:
We offer patients 2 options:
Any owed copay is determined after we receive the claim back from your given insurance company. This process usually takes between 2-3 weeks but may take longer depending on how long it takes for the insurance company to respond to a given claim.
We will send you an email notification when your first appointment is confirmed to be fully covered by insurance! If your appointment has any patient responsibility or is denied, we will reach out to coordinate your care options.
Medical records provide our dietitians with helpful information about the patient’s medical history. They also help ensure that we can get the claims covered by insurance!
We do not offer any financial assistance programs at this time. However, 94% of our clients pay nothing out of pocket so we would recommend checking out our coverage calculator to see what coverage would look like for you at Nourish. You can find our coverage calculator here: https://www.nourish.com/does-my-insurance-cover-nutrition
This typically happens when Nourish can't automatically verify your insurance coverage. Email support@nourish.com and the team will help verify your benefits and provide next steps!
Nourish requires your insurance to be active at the time of your appointment. If you attend a session without active coverage (or no insurance), you will be charged our self-pay rate of $145.
